Egmont Key State Park (3.5hr) Trip

Egmont Key State Park is a 240-acre island located at the mouth of Tampa Bay in Florida, USA. The island is accessible only by boat and is known for its historical and ecological significance. It features a lighthouse, built in 1858, which is still in operation, as well as ruins of Fort Dade, an old military fort. Egmont Key is also a haven for wildlife, including gopher tortoises, seabirds, and nesting sea turtles. The island's beaches are popular for sunbathing, swimming, and snorkeling, offering visitors a chance to experience Florida's natural beauty and history.

Imagine starting your snorkeling adventure in Gulfport, Florida, a charming coastal town known for its beautiful waterfront views and art community. You board a boat and begin your journey through the intricate waterways of Pinellas County. As you cruise along, you pass by mangrove forests, salt marshes, and a variety of bird species, getting a glimpse of the diverse ecosystem of the area.

After a relaxing boat ride, you arrive at Egmont Key State Park, a pristine island with white sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters. You anchor near the island and prepare to explore the underwater world. As you slip into the water, you are greeted by colorful fish and maybe even a curious sea manatee or two.

Your first stop is the ruins of Fort Dade, an old military fort that was built in the late 19th century and played a significant role in the Spanish-American War. You snorkel around the ruins, marveling at the history that lies beneath the surface.

After exploring the fort, you continue your snorkeling adventure around the island, discovering more marine life and underwater landscapes.
